APS Rating Milestone Reached by Czech ATCO Students at CANI
A group of future Czech air traffic controllers has successfully completed the Approach Surveillance (APS) Rating at Czech Air Navigation Institute — marking a significant milestone in the initial ATCO training pathway.
The training began in January and focused on developing the competencies required for managing traffic in approach control environments. The programme combined theoretical instruction with extensive simulator-based practice, with each participant completing more than 170 practical exercises supported by structured briefings, debriefings and continuous assessment in line with the ATCO APS Rating Training and Assessment Plan.
Completing the APS Rating is a demanding achievement — a phase that places significant demands on trainees, with over 170 practical exercises designed to build competency in complex approach control environments. It is also one stage in a longer journey — ATCO training is a structured, long-term process that requires sustained performance, focus and continuous learning at every step.
At the closing ceremony, that spirit was very much in evidence. For these students, the APS phase tested not only their technical knowledge but their composure, precision and ability to grow from every exercise and every debrief.
Training now continues at IATCC Jeneč, where participants will develop their operational skills in the next phases of ATCO training.
