Andragogy Initial Course

Course Description

The Andragogy course is a comprehensive 5-day internal training program designed to enhance the teaching and training skills of all internal instructors (except ATCO and ATSEP). This course is mandatory for those who are responsible for teaching and training new and currant employees.

Course Content

The program is focused on building the skills necessary to deliver dynamic and interactive training sessions. Throughout the course, participants will learn key principles of adult learning, including how to engage and motivate learners, create visually appealing and effective presentations, and design interactive activities. The training will also include practical exercises and opportunities for participants to apply the techniques learned in real-world scenarios. Participants will be required to design, develop, and present a 20-minute lesson, which will then be debriefed using established guidelines.

  • Introduction to Andragogy: The course may begin with an overview of the principles of andragogy, including the characteristics of adult learners, the differences between adult and child learners, and the importance of self-directed learning.
  • Learning Styles: The course may cover different learning styles and how they impact adult learners. This may include a discussion of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, as well as different ways to deliver learning materials to accommodate these styles.
  • Adult Learning Theory: The course may delve into the different theoretical models of adult learning, such as transformational learning, experiential learning, and self-directed learning.
  • Curriculum Design: The course may explore different approaches to designing curriculum for adult learners, including identifying learning objectives, selecting appropriate teaching methods, and evaluating student learning.
  • Instructional Methods: The course may cover different instructional methods that are effective for adult learners, such as case-based learning, problem-based learning, and project-based learning.
  • Technology in Adult Learning: The course may discuss the role of technology in adult learning, including the use of online learning platforms, social media, and other digital tools to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Evaluation and Assessment: The course may cover different approaches to evaluating and assessing adult learners, including traditional assessment methods like tests and quizzes, as well as more innovative methods like peer review and self-assessment.
  • Professional Development: The course may provide resources and guidance for adult learners to continue their professional development beyond the course, including strategies for staying up-to-date in their field and pursuing advanced education.

This refresher course is designed for internal instructors to revise and update their teaching and training skills. The course must be taken every 3 years to ensure that instructors remain knowledgeable and effective in their roles.

Course Content

The course will cover new researches and up-to-date information mainly in following topics effective presentation techniques, interactive teaching methods, classroom management, technology integration, assessment and evaluation.

This refresher course is designed for participants who have previously attended the Andragogy Initial Course.

Training plays a crucial role in ensuring that all individuals involved in Air Traffic Management (ATM) are proficient in their assigned tasks. Effective training can take various forms, but it is essential for trainers to understand the key elements of knowledge transfer during a lesson.

Course Content

This course aims to assist those tasked with creating and delivering classroom training or work-related presentations to achieve the highest level of effectiveness. Although the course is primarily focused on the classroom-based training for ATM personnel, the principles taught are applicable to a wide variety of training and skill development scenarios. Participants will be required to design, develop, and present a 20-minute lesson, which will then be debriefed using established guidelines.

This course is suitable for individuals who will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering theoretical training for Air Traffic Management (ATM) staff and presenting on related topics. It aligns with the criteria outlined in the Acceptable Means of Compliance for Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340, Part-ATCO, subpart C, Section 1 (Instructors) for instructors.

Team Resource Management (TRM) Facilitator

Course Description

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the TRM concept and its role in supporting safety programs within the Air Traffic Management (ATM) operations. It not only teaches the basic concepts and theories of TRM, but also shows how to put these ideas into practice. The TRM Facilitator course is designed for individuals who want to become facilitators for the TRM program. Overall, the TRM Facilitator course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively facilitate TRM training for teams in high-stress environments.

Course Content

Course is a set of skills and techniques used to optimize team performance and prevent errors in high-stress environments. The facilitator's role is to guide participants through TRM training and help them develop the necessary skills to work effectively as a team. They may also provide ongoing coaching and support to help teams apply TRM principles in real-world situations. Among other things, the participants will learn basic facilitation methods and techniques and their practical application. This is an interactive course where participants can engage in lively discussions on TRM topics. Participants can expect to facilitate a group discussion and/or to co-facilitate a half-day TRM session.

Prerequisites

This course is designed for personnel who wish to become TRM facilitators. Familiarity with Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340 and the responsibilities of ATM staff would be beneficial.

  • TRM Principles: The course covers the key principles of TRM, including situation awareness, communication, decision-making, and workload management.
  • Facilitation Skills: The course provides training on facilitation skills, such as active listening, questioning techniques, and group dynamics. Participants may also learn how to manage conflict and overcome resistance to change.
  • TRM Scenarios: The course includes simulations or case studies to allow participants to apply TRM principles and practice their facilitation skills. These scenarios may cover a range of high-stress situations, such as emergency medical procedures, aircraft emergencies, or complex surgical procedures.
  • Training Delivery: The course covers different approaches to delivering TRM training, including classroom instruction, computer-based training, and hands-on simulations. Participants may learn how to adapt training to different learning styles and audiences.
  • Evaluation and Assessment: The course covers different methods for evaluating the effectiveness of TRM training, including pre- and post-training assessments, feedback from participants, and observations of performance in real-world situations.
  • Program Management: The course provides guidance on managing the TRM program, including program planning, budgeting, and staffing. Participants may also learn how to market and promote the program to potential clients.

Upon completion of this course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the TRM concept. They will be able to explain the benefits of TRM to the operational environment, describe the methods used to carry out TRM activities, and articulate how TRM fits into EU Commission Regulation 2015/340. Additionally, participants will be equipped with the ability to use facilitation techniques to deliver TRM subject material.
